Reflection on a Semester of challenge that has made me a better artist.

Reflecting on my artistic journey this semester, it's been a whirlwind of exploration, collaboration, and unexpected twists.

At the start, I had high hopes of creating a 7-foot sculpture for public art. My research into artists like Andrew Marsh, Lucky 7 Studio, Barbara Hepworth, Alicia Dietz, Shannon Finnigan, and Sarah Sze gave me inspiration and diverse perspectives. Alicia Dietz's quote, "As a woman, a soldier, and a dreamer, I have many experiences to draw from, and I use those experiences to fuel my pieces," deeply resonated with me, reflecting my multifaceted identity as an artist.

Working alongside Brent Cole, a skilled glass artist, was a game-changer. His expertise in glass manipulation expanded my artistic horizons and fueled my passion for exploring different mediums. It was a reminder of the importance of collaboration and cross-disciplinary learning in artistic growth.

The evolution of my large-scale sculpture project was a lesson in the fluidity of the creative process. Despite careful planning, the execution didn't go as expected. Instead of seeing it as a setback, I embraced the opportunity for change and adaptation, understanding that artistic vision can take unexpected turns.

During my visit to Ole Miss, I had the opportunity to explore another university's shop and collaborate with other wonderful creators. This experience broadened my perspective and allowed me to see different approaches to art-making.

I also participated in a Bronze Pour as part of my class with Instructor Peek. This event provided hands-on experience in the technical aspects of bronze pouring and further enriched my understanding of traditional artistic practices.

The collaboration between the School of Drama at OU and the visual art community was a unique fusion of theater and visual art. Presenting my pieces alongside the play "Art" was an incredible opportunity to showcase my work to a wider audience.

The biggest news of the semester is being selected as a UReCA Fellow which came with a $5000 grant to support my artistic endeavors this summer for ten weeks, further validating my exploration and accomplishments.

Overall, this semester has been a journey of growth and discovery. From grappling with the fluid nature of the creative process to engaging with diverse artistic mediums and communities, each experience has shaped me as an artist. As I continue on my artistic path, I remain open to unexpected opportunities and embrace the evolving nature of my creative journey.
